Comminution in Ore Passes

Comminution occurs in ore passes as ore moves down the ore pass.  An example of this is at the Grasberg Mine in Indonesia.  At Grasberg, six ore passess are available to transport ore from a primary crusher stockpile to  the mill.  One or two are in operation at any given time.  The ore passess are 2.1 or 3.0 metres in diameter and approximately 600 m deep.  The feed size is typically 80% passing 75mm and the discharge size is typically 80% passing 44 mm.  This feature improves throughput rates in the crushing plant and SAG mill.  (Coleman et al., 1996)
