If you are CURIOUS as to what this is all about, look at the INTRODUCTION.It shows an animated demonstration of grouting.

But if you KNOW WHAT THIS SORT OF GROUTING IS, you will find a great deal of information about it (and some fun) in the files listed below. They are all interactive and animated.

  • WATER TESTING How to measure the permeability of the foundation before grouting.

  • GEOLOGY Adapting grouting to suit the geology.

  • WHEN IS GROUTING NECESSARY? Deciding how intensively to do grouting.

  • STAGES Grouting long holes in stages.

  • SEQUENCES How to arrange closure patterns of grout holes for maximum effect.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
....................The other files listed below run in MS-DOS
  • FLOW 1 Grout flow in various types of cracks. ( 224 KB - 'BWFlow-1.Exe' )
    • The influence of mixing methods.
    • How much water to use in the grout.
  • FLOW 2 More about flow in cracks. ( 216 KB - 'CWFlow-2.Exe' )
  • Thixotropic effects.
  • You can specify crack sizes, mixing methods, water:cement ratios, and pressure to see the effects of these on grout penetration and flow.
  • DOING GROUTING How to grout a hole - in detail, with practical hints and actual cases.
    ( 194 KB - 'JWPrcdur.Exe' )
  • BATCHING Batching quantities for use on actual jobs, with optional animated explanations.
    ( 276 KB - 'KWBatchg.Exe' )
  • GROUTING SIMULATOR A GAME. Pretend you are grouting a hole. See if you can successfully do it without incurring an error message.
    ( 190 KB - 'LWSimlor.Exe' )
  • MIXERS More about grout mixers - types of them, and the importance of effective mixing.
    ( 220 KB - 'MWMixers.Exe' )
BOOKS
MORE INFORMATION about grouting can be found in the book CONSTRUCTION AND DESIGN OF CEMENT GROUTING, A guide to grouting in rock foundations, by A.C.HOULSBY. Published by John Wiley and Sons, New York, 1990, ISBN 0-471-51629-5. This book and these programmes complement each other.
The book provides thorough coverage of the subject. Grouting methods are fully detailed and explained, and their applicability to various engineering projects is dealt with in detail. Written in an easy-to-read manner, the book is arranged as a reference manual with numerous cross references. It is essentially a guide rather than being a 'recipe book'. Numerous humorous touches reflect this author's quirky sense of fun.
The book mentioned above concentrates on cement grout. Not only for this but for other types of grout used in engineering activities attention is drawn to a newly published book: PRACTICAL HANDBOOK OF GROUTING in Soil, Rock and Structures, by JAMES WARNER
It provides a thorough treatment based on the author's many years' of grouting, initially as a contractor and then as a consultant, particularly as a trouble-shooter. As well as discoursing on common usage and easy projects, it delves into esetoric and abstruse applications, the scope of which is unlikely to have been encountered by any other grouting engineer. Jim Warner has long been regarded as one of the leaders of the profession.
The book is published by John Wiley and Sons, 2004. .. ISBN 0-471-46303-5
GROUTING COURSE
The annual SHORT COURSE ON GROUTING FUNDAMENTALS and CURRENT PRACTICE organised initially by the University of Missouri-Rolla and now by the Colorado School of Mines provides a training courses for geologists, engineers, field operators and students. The continuity of the Course has been interrupted somewhat, lately, but has now returned to its annual basis.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR:
A. Clive Houlsby (1929 - ) is an Australian Civil Engineer with about 40 years' involvement with cement grouting. This has included site investigation, trials of grouting, design, construction, evaluation and long-term performance assessments.
Courses on grouting have been conducted in several parts of the world, but mainly in U.S.A. at the Short Course mentioned above.
Other activities have included the direction of a Dam Safety Group responsible for the large irrigation dams in NSW, Australia. There has also been involvement in most aspects of dam design and construction.
The programmes on this website are presented for the purpose of passing grouting expertise on to other people. It is hoped that they will interest and help you.
